(February 2023-April 2023)
After the massive success of the 1993 Jurassic Park movie, the author of the original novel, Michael Crichton, wrote a sequel to that story, just as thrilling and scary as his last, titled The Lost World. This new novel would also be adapted into a movie, though, unlike the original Jurassic Park, the movie would very loosely adapt specific elements from the book, instead of the overall plot. The dinosaur action in The Lost World is just as scary and brutal as it is in Jurassic Park. So I made these illustrations based on some of my favorite scenes from the book, which would also serve as companions to my Jurassic Park novel illustrations. These scenes were both fun to visualize and compose, and also fun to go all in on the finer details, especially in the closeups of dinosaur scales or the foliage of the surrounding jungle.
Much like my illustrations for the Jurassic Park novel, I started each Lost World illustration with a rough thumbnail sketch. When I was satisfied with the composition, I drew a much more detailed and refined sketch. I then inked each illustration by hand, sometimes adding even more details. Inking the different textures and surfaces present in each image was just as much fun as it was when I made the illustrations for the first book. I finished each of the illustration's colors and added additional shading and highlights with Procreate.
